PLC Control Systems: Structure, Troubleshooting and Reliable Logic
An introduction to PLC control systems covering logic structure, I/O troubleshooting, sequencing, diagnostics and maintainability.

Start with the physical layer
Before changing software, confirm power, field devices, wiring, communications and I/O state. Many control problems originate outside the program.
Make logic readable
Descriptive tags, clear routines, modular functions and consistent state logic make troubleshooting faster and reduce mistakes during maintenance.
Use sequence conditions deliberately
A machine should make it obvious why it cannot advance. Interlocks and permissives should be visible enough for technicians and operators to understand.
Treat faults as part of the design
Fault handling, resets and restart conditions are not secondary features. They define how safely and quickly a system recovers.
Document changes
A short note about what changed and why can save hours for the next person troubleshooting the system.
